Terms of Use, Acceptable Use & Privacy Notice

Effective 13 April 2026 · whoami insight

These Terms govern this deployment of the Service. The interactive lessons and APIs are available only after you record acceptance on the acceptance page. This document is not legal advice; consult counsel for your situation. The authoritative long-form text is maintained in the repository file LEGAL.md.

1. Definitions

The Service includes this site and related APIs. The Interactive Service means server-backed lessons that return or summarize technical readouts (including endpoints such as /api/server-info and /api/client-report). Operator means the party operating this instance.

2. Offer, acceptance, and withholding

Static pages (including this one) may be viewed without acceptance. The Interactive Service is offered only if you affirmatively accept these Terms via the on-site mechanism, which sets a versioned, HTTP-only cookie. Until you accept, you are not authorized to use the Interactive Service; the operator may enforce that with technical controls. If you do not agree, do not use those features.

3. Nature of the Service

The Service is an educational and technical transparency tool for understanding what a typical web stack may observe about your own browser and network path when you run checks. It is not spyware or covert tracking and is not a substitute for professional security, privacy, or legal advice.

4. Acceptable use

Use the Service lawfully and in good faith. Permitted uses include, for example:

5. Prohibited conduct

You must not use the Service (or techniques it illustrates) to:

The operator may block access that appears abusive or unlawful, where permitted by law.

6. Third-party misuse

The operator does not intend wrongdoing; third parties may still misuse tools. Prohibitions do not guarantee prevention. The operator disclaims responsibility for third-party acts outside its reasonable control, to the extent permitted by law.

7. Your responsibilities

Interactive lessons require your action. You are responsible for consent and lawful use. Do not use permission-based features toward people or systems without authorization.

8. Privacy and data

The Interactive Service processes request metadata (headers, client IP as seen by the server). Export may POST JSON for a short acknowledgment; the reference deployment does not store that payload. An HTTP-only cookie records which Terms version you accepted. IP geolocation may use third parties (e.g. ip-api.com). Hosting infrastructure may log traffic.

9. Third-party services

STUN, IP databases, fonts, and other third parties have their own terms. The operator is not responsible for their availability or practices.

10. Intellectual property

The software and content for this Service are proprietary to the operator (and licensors) and are not open source at this time. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. A future public license, if any, would apply only to what it expressly covers.

11. Disclaimers

Important

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. NO WARRANTY OF UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION OR OF ACCURATE OR COMPLETE OUTPUTS.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR AND ITS AFFILIATES AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF FEES YOU PAID IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $50; IF NO FEES WERE PAID, LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MINIMUM ALLOWED BY LAW.

13. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you indemnify and hold harmless the operator and its affiliates and licensors from claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of law or others’ rights.

14. Changes

The operator may update these Terms. A new version identifier may require you to accept again before the Interactive Service resumes. Continued use may constitute acceptance where the law allows.

15. Severability

If a provision is held invalid, the remainder remains in effect.

16. Governing law & contact
